THIS
LIST IS FOR JOURNALISTS.
*Seeking
information and contacts for stories.
*Exchanging
information on trends and issues related to criminal justice
and the business of covering the crime and courts beats.
*Learning
from CJJ about conferences, reports, and other news of
interest.
LET
EVERYONE KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
Posters
should give their names, e-mail addresses, and affiliation
(e.g., location of newspaper, television station, agency)
at the end of each post.
SLUG
YOUR MESSAGE.
Let
everyone know in the subject field what your post is about.
If it's a request for sources for a deadline story, indicate
something like DEADLINE GUN STORY, NEED ACADEMIC SOURCE
CONSIDER
REPLYING PRIVATELY.
Please
use private e-mail instead of a post to the entire list
in replying to requests regarding stories that may not
be of interest to a wide range of list members;
Before
you submit a long, rambling post, think about whether
a list of 600 subscribers is likely to find it useful.
BE
NICE.
No
rude, extremely off-topic, threatening, libelous, offensive
or otherwise inappropriate postings, please. Spirited
and professional debate is expected and encouraged. If
you find fault in someone's behavior, respond privately.
NO
PRESS RELEASES, SPAM, FILE ATTACHMENTS OR JOKES.
This
list is intended or use by working crime and court journalists.
While we welcome other interested parties, a clutter of
solicitations, superfluous materials, or legal treatises
wastes subscribers' time and dilutes the list's usefulness.
Instead of attaching files, provide a link or a private
e-mail address where members can find or request more
information. The advertising of products and services
is prohibited, as are press releases.
OFF
THE RECORD.
Comments
to the discussion list are off the record, and must not
be published, broadcast, or redistributed beyond the listserv
without permission of the author. This includes e-mail
transmission. Remember that anything you post about your
current or planned work may be seen by journalists (and
some non-journalists) nationwide. To post copyrighted
materials in their entirety, you must get permission from
the copyright holder first. Posted excerpts must include
attribution.
Notify
Ted Gest, cjj@reporters.net
of changes in your e-mail address and of violations of
these guidelines. E-mail addresses
that repeatedly bounce back may be removed.
Use
of the list indicates that you have read and agreed to
these policies; members who don't follow them may be removed
without warning.
Criminal
Justice Journalists accepts no responsibility for the
opinions and information posted by others on this discussion
list. CJJ and its officers make no warranties with regard
to information posted on this discussion list and shall
